Six graduate from Chef's Academy
Six talented chefs have graduated from the Catermasters 2013 Chef's Academy programme - taking the total number of graduates to 23 in the fours years since we launched our training initiative.
Chef's Academy aims to give employees that have displayed a passion for food preparation the chance to become fully-qualified chefs within the Catermasters business. The 2013 class were taught all of the skills that are relevant in today's kitchen environment and have also achieved the Level 2 NVQ in Professional Catering qualification.
Our latest graduates are Mike Balugan, Gesaine Gouveia, Greg Kiss, Gemma McMillan, Sarah Mills and Claire Smith. They were mentored by our development chef Ryan Holmes and our long-serving unit manager, Clive Jones.
Catermasters joint managing director, Nigel Johnson said: "It's hard to believe the group has only had 12 months of formal training with us. Their development shows how worthwhile the Chef's Academy is. It allows people to fulfil their dreams of becoming chefs and blossoming within the industry.
"The fact that we've had 23 graduates in only four years is great for the Catermasters business and our clients. Investing in fresh talent and playing a leading role in helping to nurture their skills is extremely rewarding and great for morale."
All of our Chef's Academy graduates received their graduation certificates at a special event in London. Gemma McMillan was also named as the 'Student of the Year' and Claire Smith was presented with a commemorative plate to mark her impressive victory in our Junior Salon Culinaire competition.
